Star Wars Reading

Finished reading Revan (Star Wars: The Old Republic)
This is mostly about Revan post-Sith, trying to remember after having his memory wiped by the Jedi, and trying to understand his visions for impending danger hiding out on another world.
Started slow but once it got going, I flew through it in a few days.
It's mostly two parallel stories, Jedi Revan and Sith Lord Scourge and their eventually meeting and story merging relating to the Sith Emperor.
I didn't know where it was going to end, so I was surprised.
Glad to know some of this story continues into the SWTOR game.

I also picked up the Old Republic comics related to the SWTOR game.
First one look okay, but art in second comic looks horrible. Can't stand to look at the faces, they all look the same.

Continuting Legacy, still good.

and finishing Knights of Old Republic.
I really liked the Zayne story, but not so much the Jarael second half.
But the ending was great, as it should have.

Batman Animated Beginning, Reading

Just watched batman year one on netflix
awesome beginning stories for batman and gordon
it's really about batman, gordon, and gotham all meeting each other for the first time
and kicking each other's ass until they find their place
well done, i liked the graphics
only downside is how abruptly it ends, making you want more
it stops just short of actually seeing gordon and batman working together

continuing my earlier reading post and somewhat related...

Earlier this week I finished the batman novel, it was good
At first, i thought it was strange to read a book about batman but read nothing about him for the first 1/4 of the book, but it was part of the story
i liked the characters and there were plenty, the story actually feels like a collection of related stories (most likely because it is based on the series of comics)
i thought it was strange to bring in lex luthor but he works as a counter balance to bruce wayne in terms of power/resources (especially in gotham),
also lex is most likely explained through the comics (which included superman)
while reading, i was always waiting for the big bad moments to come, expecting the worst
and i knew there would be a sucker punch at the end,
and there it was right down to the wire in the last few pages

Also in reading,
I started and finished the second volume star wars comic in the series

i'm not a fan of the changing artists and having to adjust to characters new appearance
But after i did, i still enjoyed the story
now waiting for the next 2 to arrive

I flew through the star wars comic
planning to read as many more as i can get my hands on
Now digging into the batman novel

Spoilers, Audiobook

Plenty of TV spoilers going around for me lately,
and are apparently hard to avoid (from facebook and word of mouth).

I'm behind on both the Walking Dead and Fringe, so it was bound to happen, especially with big events (ie characters dying) which can't be kept secret.
For Fringe, since I did get caught up a little, I have to say I was still shocked to see it.

I started to watch season 3 of the Walking Dead season 3, but stopped after the first episode.
It's good, action packed, I like where the story is (at the prison),
but I realized I wanted to read the Governor books before seeing him on the show.

Currently I'm listening to the audiobook for Rise of the Governor, picked up from the library on 9 cds.
I'm also planning to read/listen to Road to Woodbury next.

Space Adventures!

I just finished another Isaac Asimov book The Currents of Space,
Story of a man trying to remember who he is and the great danger he came to warn the planet about.
Another great space mystery, whodunit, with many characters playing detective.
Great visuals of a layered society with literal upper and lower classes, rich lavish city above in bright lights and peasants below in the shadows.

The follows up my previous read of Pebble in the Sky.
A man travels through time into the future, is subject to an experiment that gives him special mental powers, must adjust to a futuristic radioactive earth, must avoid being put to death for being too old, and also race the clock to save the galaxy!
Humanity has spread out across millions of planets and forgotten its origin, Earth, a poor isolated backwater planet with its population not even regarded as human anymore.

Both fun scifi stories from the library, I sure appreciate free reading.

More Star Wars Reading

Continuing my earlier Star Wars post,
I finished reading Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader and Labyrinth of Evil from the library.
I enjoyed both these stories filling the gap in between the films (before and after episode 3).

Star Wars

As I said before, I haven't been much of a star wars fan in the past.

But after read the last Darth book I found more at the library.

I flew through two Darth Bane books including Path of Destruction and Rule of Two.

I really enjoyed them and I'm waiting on the third to arrive.

Weekend - tertainment

saw hunger games in the cinema this weekend

it was pretty good, and although i haven't read the book myself, it seems to follow the story well

the districts reminded me of the timezones from in time, segments distancing the rich from the poor

my only real complaint is that it felt unfinished, which is to be expected as the first in a trilogy

although i'm not a big star wars fan

i picked up a comic tag and bink and book darth plagueis from the library

looking forward to getting back into some reading

fringe is in high gear with lots of reveals and drama

with alter lincoln's death, broyles being revealed, and more insight into jones and his plans

i can feel the end of the season coming, and hope for atleast another partial season to follow

Abe Hates Vampires

I stumbled upon a trailer for the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter film coming out later this year. And this made me want to read the book first in preparation.

But I found an even better solution, the audiobook, which works well since I enjoy podcasts and I can listen during my commute and at night.

So far I've flown through it and really enjoyed it. I like the mix of fact and fiction, giving it a realistic spin (as a retelling of Abe's journals). I like the premise that slavery and the civil war were primarily because of vampires. I was hesitant of the reader during the intro (and Edgar Allen Poe tie in), but otherwise it was good.

Reading

Started two new books from the library,
Outlander (which I haven't gotten far in but so far it made me guess the title could be Pride and Prejudice and Portals)
and an Asimov collection including Pebble in the Sky and short stories (from 1950)
After making my way through the robot series, I'm moving onto the empire series and this was the only one at the library, would need to request others

Apocalypse

Seems to be one theme I've been into lately.

I was gifted Darksiders on steam for my birthday and became obsessed with it until I finally finished it.

Horseman against demons and angels. I enjoyed the story.

The Portal-ness was okay (yes portals and puzzles) as were the Dune/Tremors worms.

But I mostly enjoyed the atmosphere, and taking out a ton of zombies.

I've also been reading a book from the library called Good Omens on the similar end of the world topic.

It's good, I'm about half way through. I don't quite get all the England references, but the humor makes me think Dogma (or what little I remember).

Actually the beginning of the book made me think it should be called "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the End Times".

Angel, demon, witch, son of satan, horsemen. All with a nice modern twist, not unlike...

Supernatural, if only I was still watching it as well (to complete this trifecta), but it's on hold at the moment. I still haven't had a change to finish the last season.

Reading about Aliens?

I fairly recently finished a Dean Koontz novel, The Taking.

I found it at a bookstore (yes a real one with a real musty old paper/glue smell) for $3. After arriving home I thought about the purchase and expected I could find the book cheaper online. I was surprised to find it more expensive by $1 at Amazon, mainly for the shipping cost.

This was a crazy wild ride to read, keeping me wondering.

Basically there are some weird events happening that appear to be aliens invading, or demons, or both.

It all begins with hard rain falling constantly (apparently sucked up from the ocean) with various strange tastes/scents in the rain water.

I enjoyed reading descriptions of the rain when it was actually raining outside.

But then there is a strange feeling of something moving in the sky, a pressure coming down.

And more weird events. A dense fog ceiling. People disappearing or being attacked and killed, gruesome. Corpses reanimating. People floating through floors/ceilings.

And even weirder. UFOs flying overhead. Strange mushrooms with tentacles / people's faces inside, some moving around. Houses acting alive with creatures in their walls. Alien beings stealing people's faces in their hands. Characters/children being safe from the aliens.

I think the first half made some sense. A couple trying to survive. End of the world. Crazy weather. Spirits or zombies, aliens or demons.

But the second half seemed cluttered with all these different ideas that somehow evaporated at the end, literally.
So I enjoyed that it's an end of the world story with action and mystery, but not so much how it mixes in the grand question I think it's asking in the end. Is it possible that our ideas of aliens and demons, other universes and hell, could be one in the same? I'm sure after knowing this, it's probably better on the second read.

Superman! Reading, Comics, Shows

Mixed on latest reading from the library.
Breakpoint by Richard Clark was okay. I especially liked the first half or so where the US internet infrastructure is attacked and largely cutoff from the rest of the world. That felt believable, but I'm less inclined to believe the genetic/biologic advancements which dominated the second half.
The Fahrenheit 451 graphic novel was also just okay.
The All Star Superman #1 graphic novel was okay, I especially liked the older version of Lex.

So on the same topic of Superman, I've seen videos of DC Universe Online and it sounds fun to create your own hero/villain, although I don't play subscription games.

So also on the topic of Superman, apparently Lex will be returning for the finale of Smallville!
Also In TV shows, I've been catching up on Fringe on Hulu and still enjoying it.
I hope the new Battlestar is good and makes up for Caprica (still haven't finished, lost interest).

I still haven't read Walking Dead #81 yet, but I glanced at the letter hacks and was surprised.
The earlier mentioned letter hack I wrote in was actually printed!
