I just installed the Comic Book Lover app on my iphone.
I don't have a tablet but this is one of the big reasons I could see getting one, as a convenient digital comic reader. But for now, this is better than sitting at a laptop or desktop.
I was planning to use Google Drive, but when I saw how easy the FTP appeared to be, I tried that first.
Under Transfer -> FTP I found the connection settings for my phone over my wireless router, as IP 192.168.1.2 and port 20000. I left the phone on this view.
In Filezilla, I connected to this IP/port and found an empty directory.
(If failing to connect, disabling and reenabling wireless on iphone seems to help)
I transferred over a test CBR file with drag/drop.
On the iphone, the "Add To Library" button was now enabled.
After clicking it, I saw the message "Finished, 1 comic added to library". Easy as that.
Under the Library, I found the comic listed as (Unknown Series). The metadata tag icon allows setting the title, series, issue #, etc.
The comic reader view looks ok, especially good in landscape view and zoomed in.
Although in this view, when turning the page, it zooms out and then back in on the next page. I don't really like the zoom out and back in, i'd rather have it stay zoomed in and just go to the top of the next page.
Otherwise, I'd say its a nice reader and definitely convenient for me.

Star Wars legacy
I finally finished the Star Wars Legacy series.
In the end, I really enjoyed it, especially how all the different story lines came together.
I wasn't quite happy with the final confrontation, a bit anti-climatic. I just expected a longer and more grueling one-on-one battle. But despite that, it was still satisfying. Especially with the tons of action leading up to it.

Latest Distractions
Got back to reading more of the Star Wars Legacy comics, finished volume 8.
I've had this on hold for months at the library and didn't get it shipped until I cancelled and re-requested.
Now back to waiting for the remaining issues in the series.
I also finished the Blackest Night hardcover collection, which was just awesome.
Zombified and revived characters, spectrums of rings/corps including black and white lanterns, and well tons of characters.
Gaming on my iphone with Dead Ahead. Outrun and shoot zombies on a scooter.
I'm working on rank 15 savior and just did 18,440m on bridge/nightmare location.
I'm was using just the upgraded super scooter, except for the one challenge i needed to use the quad. Same thing with always using the grenade launcher except for rank challenges where i need to use others (like submachine). The double ammo and fast reload definitely help along with the 2nd chance.
Finished getting caught up in Game of Thrones, Being Human and Californication.
Now watching Defiance on Hulu and starting into Arrow.

Star Wars Reading
Finished reading Revan (Star Wars: The Old Republic)
This is mostly about Revan post-Sith, trying to remember after having his memory wiped by the Jedi, and trying to understand his visions for impending danger hiding out on another world.
Started slow but once it got going, I flew through it in a few days.
It's mostly two parallel stories, Jedi Revan and Sith Lord Scourge and their eventually meeting and story merging relating to the Sith Emperor.
I didn't know where it was going to end, so I was surprised.
Glad to know some of this story continues into the SWTOR game.
I also picked up the Old Republic comics related to the SWTOR game.
First one look okay, but art in second comic looks horrible. Can't stand to look at the faces, they all look the same.
Continuting Legacy, still good.
and finishing Knights of Old Republic.
I really liked the Zayne story, but not so much the Jarael second half.
But the ending was great, as it should have.

Old Republic Gaming
So after finishing a couple more Knights of the old Republic comics from the library,
I saw an ad for the free-to-play Star Wars Old Republic game.
It's been out for a while but recently became a free play model. The Bioware story is interesting.
So I downloaded it. Well just the installer at first.
And then I waited and waited and waited for all the content to download (took over a day, almost 20 Gigs averaging around 500K/s).
Annoying that its not on Steam since most of my games are.
First thing to notice is the awesome content integrated into the game including the movies and music, especially the intro clip for each character type. That made me feel a little better about the long download time.
First I started out my character as a Sith bounty hunter. I started a mission but in the middle of combat it had an error and crashed (must have been a fluke since it hasn't happened since).
So I decided to start fresh. I wasn't really digging the bounty hunter anyway. I couldn't feel the purpose for the missions.
So for the second character I went with a Jedi Knight. And after flipping through a bunch, picked out a random name. After another cool intro movie, I was on Tython, fighting against flesh raiders, traveling to the Jedi temple, and especially trying to get myself a damn real lightsaber.
For controls, I wasn't really enjoying them at first, felt a bit like Second Life except with story/movies and character progress and a purpose. I don't see a way to change the key bindings and there is no strafing (but I can recreate it with moving left/right and holding the mouse button for the camera angle).
Another weirdness was that the characters are tied to a server. Took me a few tries of logging in and not finding my characters (being prompted to create a new one) before it hit me.
UPDATE (4/3):
Finally made it to level 10 and built my lightsaber, then traveled off world to Coruscant.
This level was the first time i saw reasons for subscribing, to level up faster and have more freedom to travel. I'm sure there are other reasons as well.
I've really enjoyed the game so far using just the free play and i think it would be worth paying for. There's a lot of effort and details put into the game.
I've commented about the videos before, but also the story and character building/skills and environment deserve praise. It really feels big especially now that i'm moving between planets.
It's definitely been successful consuming a ton of my time lately. I'm hooked.
UPDATE (4/10):
Went to go play for a short bit, but there's a content update of 2+ gigs.
I'll just leave it overnight, it'll be as slow as the original download.
Ugg.

Lesser Known
Finished two comics (series) from the Library recently.
Villians United and JLA The Tornado's Path.
I really enjoyed both after getting into them, especially the focus on lesser known/under-appreciated heroes and villians, like Catman and the Red Tornado.
Between the two, there were tons of DC universe characters I was clueless on and had to look up.
How can you go wrong with villains fighting villains, redefined characters and comebacks, an android trying to be human, and a zombie to prove how fragile humans are? Plenty of action and brutal scenes.

Walking Dead S2
I finally came back and finished season 2 of the Walking Dead
After recovering from the (disasterous) end of season 1
but thankfully the second season moved a little closer to the comic
Of course there are things i didn't like about season 2
the obvious one is dragging out sophia missing, i know it had a purpose but it was annoying to EVERYONE
It's hard with such a popular show now to avoid SPOILERS (which there are of course some below), so i knew most of the big surprises
and of course the best part of season 2 is the ending.
getting some idea on the rules of zombies and how this all works. apparently romero based with any death resulting in a zombie. and we see zombies eat animals as well.
and then there's the finale with the herd/horde, rick being solidified as the leader, and then a teaser of michonne and the prison.
as for the comics, i am months behind at the moment, not entirely into it being in a slow spell, still back on the hilltop issues and wondering what is to come.

It's hard with such a popular show now to avoid SPOILERS (which there are of course some below), so i knew most of the big surprises
and on that topic, i didn't like sophia getting turned and killed
sophia made me realize how different the tv show is from the comic,
i think of them now as the two universes or timelines (like Fringe), with the same characters (roughly) but different outcomes, which is good, anything can happen.
it's fitting that rick should be the only one willing to shoot her, making me think back to the beginning of the pilot.

the sophia search was an interesting twist, where shane is actually right that it was a waste of time, and rick admits to being wrong, which fits with rick's struggles to lead in the comic.
also fitting that otis was the only one who could have known where she was.
Dale! i was shocked to find out he would be dying this season as well.
the opposite of shane (in many ways on the show), his time was cut short compared to the comic, but close in gruesomeness.
but he avoided being bitten twice and being eaten by cannibals, and eventually was shot (per the comic).
but he avoided being bitten twice and being eaten by cannibals, and eventually was shot (per the comic).
his death fit well with the episode, representing the humanity of the group.
great to have a couple episodes with rick struggling over killing the innocent to protect themselves, where rick fails to shoot in front of carl or to end his friends suffering.
i didn't like that shane was still alive, but this was eventually fixed.
and he was shot by carl matching the comic. well except the was a zombie.
we get to know shane a lot more in the tv show. how bad of a person he really is (killing otis). and i think it's a fitting end for him, since he hates zombies so much, it's his worst end.

great to have an entire knock down fight episode with shane versus rick.

such a great season, despite having its differences with the comic. it's standing on its own.

Weekend - tertainment
saw hunger games in the cinema this weekend
it was pretty good, and although i haven't read the book myself, it seems to follow the story well
the districts reminded me of the timezones from in time, segments distancing the rich from the poor
my only real complaint is that it felt unfinished, which is to be expected as the first in a trilogy
although i'm not a big star wars fan
i picked up a comic tag and bink and book darth plagueis from the library
looking forward to getting back into some reading
fringe is in high gear with lots of reveals and drama
with alter lincoln's death, broyles being revealed, and more insight into jones and his plans
i can feel the end of the season coming, and hope for atleast another partial season to follow

Maven, New Comic
I had an old Java project lying around, a simple class to parse a Wikipedia page and send an email when text changed.
I used it to notify myself when a new issue of a comic, the Walking Dead, was available.
Finally I took some time and converted it over to Maven.
Surprising as it is, I didn't have it installed on here, so I had to set it up.
I created a basic pom and ended up changing to using commons-email instead of just the mail api and smtp.
Finally I ran the class using the maven exec plugin.
I also configured the main class and classpath in the jar plugin, incase I decide to run it as a jar instead.
I like Maven, I am an enthusiast, but migrating to Maven is not smooth, especially with ongoing development.
Usually a branch gets created, porting and testing the project in Maven, while trunk dev continues.
And since merging can be ugly and lose information, it can be better to just redo the changes on trunk when ready to move over.
I've done this in the past by creating a bash script to run on the trunk when ready, moving the files to the standard layout and adding the poms.
So the comic issue notifier code works well as long as someone else is updating the wiki page,
which didn't happen this time, so updated the page myself.
Read through the new Walking Dead issue #84.
Glad to see the possibility of Carl surviving, the group working together, and Rick finding himself.
I was disgusted with Rick in the last issue, running away and leaving people he cared about to die.
This issue restored some of my faith in him.
Though if Carl died, I can just imagine him spiraling out of control.
I really hope this doesn't happen, Carl is badass, like the gunslinger, and I hope he continues on.
Waiting time, another month to find out.

Words, DND, Dead
I've gotten addicted to Words With Friends recently on iPod
I had a run with some good points, including wandS + joustS (52) - could have played gnawS (73), loving (30), Oracle + gO (48)
Those were in the same game, giving a 150+ lead. Also played hand (42) in another game.
I played best when I planned my next moves right after playing a word, so I had options and their points.
Finished Series 3 of the PA DND podcasts with the fall of Aeofel.
Just started Series 4, switching out Chris Perkins for Jerry as DM and adding Kris Straub. Definitely a different feeling, but a nice change. I do hope to see/hear more DND adventures with the previous characters and Chris.
I've also been catching up on older PATV, including the DND episode.
On the topic of DND, although I'm interested in it, I've never played.
I've mostly grown up playing video games:
Atari with Star Wars, Combat, Dig Dug, Off the Wall, Jungle Hunt, Frogger
Gameboy with Tetris, Super Mario, Metroid,...
Any arcade games like Centipede, Pac Man, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, especially liked Spy Hunter,...
PC with Wolfenstein, Doom, Diablo, lots of free games on CDs including Descent,...
A friend's Nintendo with Super Mario, Double Dragon,...
A friend's Sega with Sonic
Tons of Super Nintendo with Donkey Kong Country, Ninja Turtles, Super Mario, Shaq Fu, Smart Ball, Super Ghouls & Goblins, F-Zero, Super Punchout,...
Other friend's consoles including Playstation like Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero,...
Wii with Sports and Super Smash Bros
More PC like GTA, Max Payne, Battlefield 2, Combat Arms, Half Life, Counter Strike, Left 4 Dead, Minecraft, Portal,.....
Ok, I'll stop, there are just too many to attempt to list and no way I will remember them all
But the point is, I've been a video game guy
And yes, I've played card and board games but definitely not as much, so DND is completely new for me
Read through the latest Walking Dead comic #83 and wow, it finally hit the fan in a big way. It came out a week early but I didn't get to finding out or reading it till this week.

Content Backlog
I've had plenty of material sitting around to catch up on and I've finally started digging in.
At the moment, I've caught up on Fringe (a favorite) and The Cape.
I was caught up on The Event until new episodes just came out.
Starting to catch up on V and No Ordinary Family.
Other TV shows we have in rotation for new episodes:
Castle
The Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
The Mentalist
House
CSI
Grey's Anatomy
The Office
Smallville and Supernatural are on hold at the moment.
Newest TV shows we are catching up on:
White Collar
Parenthood
Community
Modern Family
In comics, I finally read The Walking Dead #81 and also read #82 released today.
I also caught up on Penny Arcade and I can only hope I don't feel like this during PAX
I see a lot of comic based movies coming up this summer.
None I'm super excited about, maybe X-Men: First Class (imagine X-Men as friends again!) and Green Lantern.

Superman! Reading, Comics, Shows
Mixed on latest reading from the library.
Breakpoint by Richard Clark was okay. I especially liked the first half or so where the US internet infrastructure is attacked and largely cutoff from the rest of the world. That felt believable, but I'm less inclined to believe the genetic/biologic advancements which dominated the second half.
The Fahrenheit 451 graphic novel was also just okay.
The All Star Superman #1 graphic novel was okay, I especially liked the older version of Lex.
So on the same topic of Superman, I've seen videos of DC Universe Online and it sounds fun to create your own hero/villain, although I don't play subscription games.
So also on the topic of Superman, apparently Lex will be returning for the finale of Smallville!
Also In TV shows, I've been catching up on Fringe on Hulu and still enjoying it.
I hope the new Battlestar is good and makes up for Caprica (still haven't finished, lost interest).
I still haven't read Walking Dead #81 yet, but I glanced at the letter hacks and was surprised.
The earlier mentioned letter hack I wrote in was actually printed!

Recent Comics
Read the guild comics #1-3
A nice prequel to the show
I started but haven't gone back to finish watching season 4
Read walking dead #80
I enjoyed that I read it turning a snow storm last week and there are huge snowflakes falling in the comic. There was also another snow storm today.
Setting up some problems inside the community (including love triangle), so it may not be the huge zombie horde that kills them
Read tron:betrayal comics
Also watched youtube videos showing gameplay and story scenes from tron:evolution
Haven't seen tron:legacy yet, but these prequels fill in the story since the original tron

Lego Walking Dead
I stumbled upon this lego alternate ending (and its own alternate) for episode 1 in season 1 of the Walking Dead tv show, where Rick is attacked on horseback by a zombie horde in Atlanta.
Looking forward to seeing season 2, despite the CDC blunder at the end of the first season, since I am a committed reader of the comics.
Glad to see issue #80 finally out this past week, in a different month and year than its original release date. This just reminded me to go grab it now that it's available.
I haven't read it yet, but I did check the letter hacks and was a little disappointed not to see mine. Not that it was all that interesting, here is the first part of it:
Dedicated reader writing in for the first time. I just finished issue 79 and I am excited for No Way Out. I especially enjoyed the snow since it hits home for me. I could never see enough zombie survival in winter. On that note, have you seen Pontypool?I noticed that the first snowfall was in issue 5 which ends in line with the latest episode 4 of the TV show. Coincidence? Robert, awesome job on episode 4. Sina, I agree the show is great and the casting is spot on. Glad to hear it is being received so well and even featured as best new show on the cover of EW.
